Description of key information

Bioaccumulation: aquatic/sediment: Low potential for bioaccumulation.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The parent compound trimethoxy(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)silane (CAS 34396-03-7) has an estimated log Kow of 4.0 and a calculated log Koa < 5.0. However, the parent compound is expected to hydrolyse rapidly in the aquatic environment (DT50 = 5.7 h at pH 7 and 20 – 25 °C, QSAR). Its hydrolysis products (2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)silanetriol and methanol have predicted low log Kow values of 0.9 and -0.82 to -0.64, respectively. Thus, the hydrolysis products have a low potential for bioaccumulation. Therefore, in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX, bioaccumulation in aquatic species does not need to be assessed.
