Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

BASF (1995) reported an in vivo skin irritation study using rabbits. Undiluted borfluorid tetrahydrofuran was tested for 3 minutes and 1 hour under semiocclusive conditions. Occurring erythema (score 0.2) after 3 min treatment were fully reversible after 72 h. The average score for irritation could not be calculated after 1-hour application (visual necrosis, hence resulting study termination 24 hours after removal of the test patches). The necrotic changes of the skin were assessed by macroscopic pathology indicating full-thickness necrosis.

As the product corrodes the skin, it can be expected to have a similar effect on the eyes, also.

Justification for classification or non-classification
