A range-finding test with the following test concentrations was carried out: 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, 10 and 100 mg/l. Since no immobilisation of daphnids occurred in any of the treatments only the highest test concentration of a 100 mg of test item/I and a blank control was performed for the definitive test. - Vehicle:

- The organism used in this test system was the species Daphnia magna Straus. The Daphnia were bred in the laboratories of the Ecotox Center under standardised conditions.
Breeding:
Cultures of Daphnia magna are held in glass vessels containing approximately 3 litres of reconstituted water at 18 - 22 °C. The water is renewed partially three times per week. The Daphnia are fed with a suspension of green algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) supplemented by a Tetramin-extract in such quantities that the food is consumed within 24 hours.

Light: 14 hours photoperiod daily, 10 hours darkness.

- Executive summary:
The goal of this acute toxicity study to daphnia magna is to determine the EC50 of FAT 93504/A (Concentration at which 50 % of the Daphnia test population is immobilised). This study was performed according to the OECD Guideline 202 (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test). Daphnia magna Straus were used, 20 Daphnia at each test concentrations. The percent of immobility of daphnids after 24 and 48 hours in contact with the substance was determined in this static test, at 19.4 -21 °C. The nominal concentration of FAT 93504/A tested was 100 mg test item/l. Additionally, a blank control without test item was carried out. The test concentration was prepared from a stock solution. The NOEC and the EC0 value after 48 hours was determined to be >100 mg/l. The EC50 value after 48 hours was determined as above 100 mg/l. The EC100 value after 48 hours is higher than 100 mg/l. No daphnids were immobilised in the control and in the test concentration of 100 mg/l. According to Directive 93/21/EEC (adaptation to Directive 67/548/EEC) the ecotoxicological classification of FAT 93504/A is 'non-toxic' to Daphnia magna following an exposure period of 48 hours.
