Description of key information

T1/2 to equilibrium of 2.1 hours.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A 45% decrease in initial Malachite Green (MG) concentration was observed in 145 hours under dark conditions, showing that an important part of MG degradation is due to hydrolysis (Perez et al, 2007). The pK of MG is reported to be 6.89 (Goldacre et al, 1949) with a T1/2 to equilibrium of 2.1 hours. The hydrolysis reaction is the transformation of MG into its Carbinol derivative.
