Ready biodegradability tests are available for several alkyl sulfates. Based on the results of screening tests for biodegradation in water it can be concluded that alkyl sulfates with carbon chain length of C8-C18 are readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria (OECD SIDS 2007).
A non-GLP study performed according to OECD guideline 301 D proves ready biodegradability of C8-14AS TEA (CAS 85665-45-8; Richterich 2007).
