Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Readily biodegradable (by OECD criteria).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

5 -Chlorovaleryl chloride is expected to rapidly hydrolyse in contact with water to form 5 -chlorovaleric acid (CAS 1119 -46 -6) and hydrogen chloride (CAS 7647 -01 -0). In a DOC-die away test 5 -chlorovaleryl chloride was readily biodegradable. No studies on the biodegradation of 5 -chlorovaleric acid are available. However, due to the rapid hydrolysis it is likely that the findings from the 8 -day study reflects the degaradation of the hydrolysis product 5 -chlorovaleric acid and it may thus be concluded that parent substance and the (organic) hydrolysis product are readily biodegradable.
