Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on the test results of 1,2-Pentanediol,the 96-hour LC50 for 1,2-Hexanediol is assumed to be > 1000 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental data with 1,2-Hexanediol are available. Therefore read-across to the structurally similar 1,2-Pentanediol, CAS 5343-92-0 (see read-across justification), was conducted.

The available acute fish test with 1,2-Pentanediol was performed according to OECD 203 (1981) at nominal concentrations of 100, 180, 320, 580, 1000 mg/l. No mortality occurred during the 96 h exposure for all test concentrations and control. Thus, the LC50 was higher than 1000 mg/l, the highest test concentration.

Based on the test results of 1,2-Pentanediol (CAS 5343-92-0) it can be assumed, that 1,2-Hexanediol (CAS 6920-22-5) will cause no mortality in fish during a 96h test period up to and including a nominal test concentration of 1000 mg/L. Thus, an LC50(96h) > 1000 mg/L is used for the 1,2-Hexanediol safety assessment.
