Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Assessment of hydrolytic stability using the regulatory method presented in Method C7 Abiotic Degradation, Hydrolysis as a Function of pH of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and Method 111 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 13 April 2004, was not considered feasible for this test item.

Additional information

The test material itself was not tested since the test item is a complex mixture of discrete but related oligomeric species, the composition of which in solution may be influenced by both simultaneous consumption of individual components by hydrolysis as well as generation/accumulation of the same component originating from the hydrolysis of higher oligomeric species. As such, quantification of the hydrolysis behaviour of the test item was considered beyond the scope of the regulatory methods which are intended for pure substances only, specifying a minimum required purity of 95%. In lieu of experimental testing on this substance, experimental data is available for a number of individual phosphate species which were evaluated in isolation as pure salts, eliminating the technical difficulties presented by this test item. This data addresses a majority of the composition of the test item (>90%) based on the compositional information. The hydrolysis data used to read across to this test item is summarised in the following tables:

Substance used for experimental determination

Anticipated half-life at 25°C

Reference

Phosphate / orthophosphate

Not applicable – no mechanism for hydrolysis. Orthophosphates will dissociate to their individual ionic components and the phosphate anion has no potential mechanism for further hydrolysis, itself being the final common hydrolysis product of higher polyphosphates.
