Additional information

The oral LD50 was determined in rats to be 528 mg/kg/day for males and 484 mg/kg/day for females. The overall LD50 value for males and females was 506 mg/kg. Postmortem exams of animals dead after exposure showed distended and hemorrhagic intestines.

The dermal LD50 was determined in male and female rabbits to exceed 2000 mg/kg. No signs of toxicity were observed in these animals.

The acute inhalation toxicity, the LC50 was calculated from a rat LC50 at 1 hr (11.02 mg/L) by dividing by 2 as per the following guideline, "NFPA, Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, UN Publication, 4th Ed. Section 6.4)." The calculated LC50 value of 5.5 mg/L was converted to 5500 mg/m3.

According to GHS classification for oral toxicity 1-nitropropane is a category 4 compound.

The calculated LC50 of 5500 mg/m3 indicates that 1-nitropropane is a category 3 compound.

No classification for Dermal toxicity is proposed based on the LD50 is excess of 2000 mg/kg bw.
