Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

OECD 301C test of this substance showed average 42% as biodegradation rate of BOD and did not meet the criteria of ready biodegradation. But biodegradation rate from GC analysis showed average 65% and degradation products are not recognized in the test suspension. And BOD curve of this test showed an upward tendency after 28 days.

On the other hand, this substance has low water solubility and test condition of OECD 301C need high test substance concentration as 100 mg/L. Therefore this high concentration may increases the probability of inhibition or mass transfer issues for low solubility materials as described in “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7b: Endpoint specific guidance”.

Another study conducted at 30 mg/L test substance concentration (OECD 301C reverse method) showed average 83% degradation of BOD and average 95% degradation from GC analysis. And also there were not degradation products in this test.

As a result of consideration by the overall information above, we concluded that this substance has low environmental persistence and shows “Ready degradability in actual environment".
