Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
BASF Test
Before OECD Guideline 404 was established in 1982, skin irritation was tested using an internal method (BASF test). White Vienna rabbits were used. Test substance was applied as an aqueous suspension (ca. 50%) to a 2.5 x 2.5 cm patch (0.5 - 1 ml) and placed on the clipped and intact skin of two white Vienna rabbits for 1 min, 5 min, 15 min and two other rabbits for 20 h under occlusive conditions. By the end of exposure, the skin was first washed with undiluted Lutrol 9, then with an aqueous Lutrol solution (50 %). Finally, cutaneous reaction was recorded daily after application of the test substance. Dermal reaction was reported in narrative form.

Any other information on results incl. tables

After short term exposure to the test substance for 1 to 15 minutes no skin reaction was noted. 24 hours after application of the test substance very slight erythema was observed.

After long term exposure for 20 hours no skin reaction was noted. Three to six days after application of the test substance slight erythema was observed in one animal. No cutaneous reaction was observed on day 8 and thereafter.
