Description of key information

The kinematic viscosity of Alcohols, C7-9-linear and branched is expected to be ca. 4-9 cSt (4-9 mm2/s) at 40°C on the basis of read across, expert judgement and weight of evidence. Values of 4, 3.6, 5.6 and 9 mm2/s at 40°C are reported in reliable secondary literature.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The available results form a weight of evidence.

The kinematic viscosity of 4 cSt (4 mm2/s) at 40°C is reported in reliable company product literature for the UVCB. Values of 3.6 - 9 cSt (3.6-9 mm2/s) at 40°C are based upon read across from recent reliable measurements for commercial samples of analogous mono-constituent substances (hexan-1-ol, octan-1-ol and nonan-1-ol).

In some cases the CAS and chemical identity stated refer to SDA nomenclature for this substance. in REACH substance identification it is necessary to be more specific as to the chain lengths present. Full details may be found in the CSR.
