EC number: 300-226-2 | CAS number: 93924-32-4 A complex combination of hydrocarbons obtained by treatment of Foot's oil with natural or modified clay in either a contacting or percolation process to remove the trace amounts of polar compounds and impurities present. It consists predominantly of branched chain hydrocarbons with carbon numbers predominantly in the range of C20 through C50.

Key study data are available for relevant physicochemical endpoints for the foots oils category. All substances in the category are liquids (CONCAWE 2009) at ambient temperature (20°C) and pressure (101.3 kPa). There is no guideline method available for this endpoint and data presented are based on visual observation, supported by data on melting point/pour point. The melting point for chemicals in this category ranges from -60 to 49°C (CONCAWE, 2010a; CONCAWE, 1997) and the boiling point range is from >158°C to 800°C (CONCAWE, 1997; 2010a). The density typically ranges from 811 to 852 kg/m3at 15°C (CONCAWE, 2010a) and the vapour pressure is <0.1 hPa at 20°C (CONCAWE, 2010a).
Flash points for foots oils are generally >98 -344°C. Foots oils are not considered to be flammable or explosive, do not meet EU CLP classification criteria fo roxidising properties, and do not dissociate or form ionized species. The kinematic viscosity of substances in this category is generally >2 mm2/s at 40°C.
