- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- other justification
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
There are no functional groups within the test item molecule that could cause pyrophoricity or flammability in contact with water, basis: "Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment", Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance, R.7.1.10.3 and table R.7.1-27 (ECHA, May 2008).
The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility (e.g. water solubility study) shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water. - Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: EU method. GLP study.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Interpretation of results:
- non flammable
- Remarks:
- Migrated information
- Conclusions:
- The test substance is not highly flammable in accordance with test A.10. criteria.
- Executive summary:
The determination of the flammability of the test substance was performed according to EU method A.10. The preliminary screening test was made to determine if, on ignition by a gas flame, propagation by burning with flame or smoldering occurs. It was noted whether combustion propagates along 200 mm of the train within the 4 minutes test period. The substance was formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting base plate. A hot flame from a gas burner (minimum diameter 5 mm, temperature of the flame was about 1000 °C) was applied to one end of the powder train until the powder ignites or for a maximum of 2 minutes. After applying the flame of burner the sample does not ignite. The glow occurs only locally and passes after 1 s. The test substance is not highly flammable in accordance with test A.10. criteria.
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- other justification
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The molecular structure of the test substance does not contain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air. The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facilities, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing.

Description of key information
Key study: EU method. GLP study.
After applying the flame of burner the sample does not ignite. The glow occurs only locally and passes after 1 s. The test substance is not highly flammable in accordance with test A.10. criteria.
Data waiving: There are no functional groups within the test item molecule that could cause pyrophoricity or flammability in contact with water, basis: "Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment", Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance, R.7.1.10.3 and table R.7.1-27 (ECHA, May 2008).
