- A saturated solution in water was mixed with water and 10% of weight sediment. The mixture was shaken overnight and then centrifuged. Supernatant and bottom fraction were extracted separately with 15% methylenechloride in hexane, and the extracts were analyzed by gas chromatography with electrone capture.

In the supernatant, concentrations between about 22 and about 44 ng/l were detected, while the sediment contained between 74 and 136 µg/g (corresponding to about 74 - 136 mg/l). Precipitation of Dechlorane Plus in the sediment phase was observed indicating that only a part of the concentration in sediment was adsorbed to the sediment, while presumably the main part was precipitated.

- Result is not reliable due to precipitation of test substance in sediment. However, an estimate for sorption partition coefficient (Kp) and estimated error wa made to be (4.5 ±1.9) x 10E6, indicative of high sorption to organic matter.
- Executive summary:
Dechlorane Plus was investigated for adsorption to sediment by mixing a saturated water solution with water and about 10% of sediment overnight. The supernatant and the bottom fraction were separately extracted with 15% methylenechloride in hexane, and the extracts were analyzed by gas chromatography with electrone capture. Precipitation of test substance in the sediment was reported by the investigator. Although very high concentrations of the test substance were detected in sediment, a large part of it may represent precipitation and not adsorption to sediment. An attempt was made to correct this by the amount of particlaue found in the control to derive a sorption partition coefficient (Kp) incl. estimated error to be (4.5 ±1.9) x 10E6.
