Summary

The substance was not toxic at its maximum achievable water solubility limit in any of the performed test on algae fish and daphnia. Hence, the substance is notconsideredas an environmental hazard for the aquatic compartment.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

One OECD 202 GLP study is available. The 48-hour EC50 of 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-' di(2-ethylhexanoyl peroxy) hexane in a static test system is >100 mg/L expressed asinitialloading rate, corresponding to 0.802 mg/L expressed as actual concentration (geometric mean of measured concentrations during the test in the saturated solution obtained from this loading rate of 100 mg/L) forDaphnia magna. In conclusion, the substance was not toxic at its water solubility limit in the performed test.

Long term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

In the performed OECD 211 study, the chronic daphnia toxicity of 2,5 dimethyl-2,5 di(2ethylheanoylperoxy)hexane (CAS 13052 -09 -0) and it degradation product was tested. Due to the low water solubility of the substance, a WAF preparation was made described as described in the RSS. No effects were seen at a nominal loading rate of 10 mg/L. The results shows that 2,5 dimethyl-2,5 di(2ethylheanoylperoxy)hexane is not toxic to Daphnia magna during OECD 211 conditions in concentrations below its water solubility limit.

Short term toxicity to fish

The substance is highly insoluble in water and hence, short term toxicity to fish is not needed. However, the short term toxicity of 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(2-ethylhexanoylperoxy)hexane to fish embryo was tested with a non-GLP screening study conducted similar to OECD 236. The study was conducted without chemical analysis and with less replicates and concentrations compared to a strict OECD 236 guideline test. Also, less physical chemical measurements were taken. Water accommodated fraction was used as it is recommended for poorly soluble and instable substances. Hence, results are based on nominal loading rates of the WAF. The NOELR was 10 mg/L and the EL50 >= 10 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

One OECD 201 study carried out under GLP is available where ErC50 > 100 mg/L (loading rate). The substance was not toxic at its water solubility limit in the performed test.

Toxicity to microorganisms

One OECD 209 study is available and the 3 h EC50 of the test item is > 1000 mg/L for activated sludge.
