Additional information

Skin irritation was studied in rabbits (Haskell 1988c). No signs of irritation were observed.

Minimal signs of eye irritation were recorded in a study in rabbits (Haskell 1975c). The signs included minimal to moderate conjuctival irritation with no corneal or iritic involvement in an unwashed rabbit eye and mild to slight transient corneal opacity and mild to moderate conjunctival irritation with no iritic involvement in a eye promptly washed after the exposure period. Both eyes were normal within 3-7 days. No standard scoring system was applied in the study. however, the minimal severity of the observed effects and the rapid recovery indicate a low concern for eye irritating potential.

Finally, no signs of respiratory irritation were noted following acute and repeated exposure by inhalation to HCFC 123.

Justification for classification or non-classification

HCFC 123 does not meet the criteria for classification as skin or eye irritation in accordance with EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
