The most sensitive organism regarding acute toxicity to 2 -[2 -(3 -aminopropoxy)ethoxy]ethanol (CAS 112 -33 -4) was Daphnia magna (48 -h EC50 > 100 mg/L).
Short-term toxicity to fish:
With high probability acutely not harmful to fish.
The acute toxicity of 2 -[2 -(3 -aminopropoxy)ethoxy]ethanol (CAS 112-33-4) to fish was studied in a static test according to OECD guideline 203. The test species was Danio rerio (reported as Brachydanio rerio). The test item concentrations were analytically verified. The 96 -h LC50 was determined to be 681 mg/L (measured) based on not pH-adjusted test solutions. The highest test concentration of 1000 mg/L caused no mortality after pH-adjustment while all fish were dead after 24 h without pH adjustment (BASF AG, 1995; report no. 17F0455/915146). It can be concluded that the toxic effect is mainly caused by the pH shift induced by the test substance.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:
With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
The acute toxicity of 2 -[2 -(3 -aminopropoxy)ethoxy]ethanol (CAS 112 -33 -4) was determined in an acute daphnid toxicity test according to the EC method C.2. The test item concentrations were analytically verified. The 48-h EC0 value for Daphnia magna is >= 100 mg/L (measured; BASF AG, 1992; report no. 91/1782/50/1).
Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

Toxicity to aquatic algae and plants:
With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae.
The toxic effect of 2 -[2 -(3 -aminopropoxy)ethoxy]ethanol (CAS 112 -33 -4) was determined in an algal growth inhibition test according to the EC method C.3. The test item concentrations were analytically verified. No effects on growth rate and biomass were noted up to the highest test concentration of 100 mg/L. The 72 -h NOEC and the EC10 (biomass and growth rate) are greater than 100 mg/L (measured; BASF AG, 1993; report no. 91/1782/60/1).
Toxicity to microorganisms:
The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
The inhibitory effect of 2[-2 -(3 -aminopropoxy)ethoxy]ethanol (CAS 112 -33 -4) was studied in a growth inhibition test under GLP and according to German Industrial Standard DIN 38412, part 8 on Pseudomonas putida. The 16 -h EC10 was determined to be 280 mg/L (nominal; not neutralised test solutions). The neutralised test sample of the highest test concentration (10000 mg/L, pH 7.0) caused an inhibition of 50% while the not neutralised test sample of the same concentration (10000 mg/L, pH 11) caused a complete inhibition on growth. The neutralised and not neutralised test solution (pH 7.6 and 9.8) caused no inhibition on growth compared to the control (BASF AG, 1992; report no. 91/1782/70/2).
