- Range-finding testA total of 5 water accommodated fractions (WAF) of the test article were prepared in dilution water at 0, 10, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 mg/L using a single replicate at each concentration. The media was not renewed during this test. Definitive test A 1,000 mg/L WAF was prepared by combining 1.5 g of the test substance and 1,500 mL of dilution water in a vessel with a magnetic stirrer. The mixture was stirred for 24 hours and allowed to settle for approximately 1 hour. The water phase containing the WAF was removed by syphon. This was used to formulate definitive concentrations of 0, 130, 220, 360, 600 and 1000 mg/L.

- Juvenile daphnids less than 24-hours old were produced from an in-house culture. The original culture was procured from Aquatic BioSystems Inc.,Fort Collins, Colorado on August 29, 1997.Prior to testing, the daphnid culture was maintained in dilution water under static conditions in a 3.8 liter glass jar. Cultures were supplied withalga, Selenastrum capricornutum, and a yeast/trout chow mixture daily throughout the acclimation period. No mortality was observed in the 48 h immediately preceding the start of the toxicity test. The average wet weight of control daphnids at the end of the toxicity test was 0.45 mg. The loading was 0.18 g/L.

One study is available on the short-term toxicity of Bis(2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl) adipate (CAS 141-17-3) to aquatic invertebrates.
This key study was performed according to a procedure similar to OECD Guideline 202. The test organism Daphnia magna was exposed to nominal concentrations of 0, 130, 220, 360, 600 and 1000 mg/L for 96 hours. An EC50 (48 h) of 420 mg/L was calculated.
