Toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods

The lethal concentration (LC50) value of benzyl propionate in earthworm in a 14 day study on mortality effect was estimated to be 1400.154 mg/L.

Toxicity to terrestrial arthropods

This end point was considered for waiver since direct or indirect exposure to the soil compartment is highly unlikely; given the use of this chemical as flavor and fragrance agent. Hence it is expected that toxicity to terrestrial arthropods with the chemical benzyl propionate is unlikely.

Toxicity to terrestrial plants

This end point was considered for waiver since direct or indirect exposure to the soil compartment is highly unlikely; given the use of this chemical as flavor and fragrance agent. Hence it is expected that toxicity to terrestrial plants with the chemical benzyl propionate is unlikely.

Toxicity to soil microorganisms

This end point was considered for waiver since direct or indirect exposure to the soil compartment is highly unlikely; given the use of this chemical as flavor and fragrance agent. Hence it is expected that toxicity to the soil micro-organisms with the chemical benzyl propionate is unlikely.

Toxicity to birds

No information on toxicity to birds available. Toxicity to birds is not a standard information requirement in Annex IX. Moreover, as the substance is not toxic to mammals (not classified for toxicity) no further toxicity testing on birds is proposed.
