First-aid measures

General information:

Remove contaminated clothing immediately and dispose of safely.

Remove breathing equipment only after contaminated clothing have been completely removed.

In case of irregular breathing or respiratory arrest provide artificial respiration.

Clean body thoroughly.

Call a doctor immediately.

Symptoms of poisoning may even occur after several hours; therefore medical observation for at least 48 hours after the accident.

Inhalation:

Move exposed person to fresh air. Keep person warm and at rest.

If not breathing, if breathing is irregular or if respiratory arrest occurs, provide artificial respiration or oxygen by trained personnel.

Get medical attention if symptoms occur. If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately.

Maintain an open airway.

Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband.

In case of inhalation of decomposition products in a fire, symptoms may be delayed. The exposed person may need to be kept under medical surveillance for 48 hours.

Ingestion:

Wash out mouth with water. Move exposed person to fresh air.

Keep person warm and at rest. If material has been swallowed and the exposed person is conscious, give small quantities of water to drink.

Stop if the exposed person feels sick as vomiting may be dangerous. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel.

If vomiting occurs, the head should be kept low so that vomit does not enter the lungs.

Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately.

Maintain an open airway.

Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband.

Skin contact:

Flush contaminated skin with plenty of water.

Remove contaminated clothing and shoes.

Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Wash clothing before reuse. Clean shoes thoroughly before reuse.

Eye contact:

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids.

Check for and remove any contact lenses.

Continue to rinse for at least 10 minutes.

Get medical attention if irritation occurs.

Fire-fighting measures

Promptly isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire.

No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training.

Hazardous combustion products:

Decomposition products may include the following materials: carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, irritating gases/ vapours.

Combustion gases of organic materials must in principle be graded as inhalation poisons.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

Fire-fighters should wear appropriate protective equipment and selfcontained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode.

Suitable extinguishing agents: water

Additional information

Collect contaminated fire fighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system.

Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

Remove persons from danger area.

Personal precautions:

No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering.

Provide adequate ventilation.

Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.

Hazard of slipping on spilled product.

Environmental precautions:

Avoid dispersal of spilled material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers. Inform the relevant authorities if the product has caused environmental pollution (sewers, waterways, soil or air).

Large spill:

Move containers from spill area. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or confined areas.

Vacuum or sweep up material and place in a designated, labeled waste container.

Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Small spill:

Move containers from spill area. Vacuum or sweep up material and place in a designated, labeled waste container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Handling and storage

Open and handle receptacle with care.

Ensure that suitable extractors are available on processing machines.

Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.

Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited in areas where this material is handled, stored and processed.

Workers should wash hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking.

Do not ingest.

Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.

Keep in the original container or an approved alternative made from a compatible material, kept tightly closed when not in use.

Empty containers retain product residue and can be hazardous.

The product is registered with strictly controlled conditions as defined in Article 17(3) or 18(4) of Regulation (EC) no. 1907/2006 (REACH Regulation) and must therefore be handled as such.

Refer to the industry guidance prepared by Concawe/Cefic/EFCG for advice on the confirmation of strictly controlled conditions.

Storage:

Store in accordance with local regulations.

Existing storage restrictions with other materials must be adhered.

Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and wellventilated area, away from incompatible materials and food and drink. Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use.

Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage.

Do not store in unlabeled containers.

Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination.

Additional information:

Store under lock and key and with access restricted to technical experts or their assistants only.

Observe national and local legal requirements.

Existing storage restrictions with other materials must be adhered.

Store away from foodstuffs.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure control:

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in  accordance with REACH Regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated  intermediates  and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for  further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under  the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH Regulation  Article 18(4).

Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements  including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal  protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management  systems is available at each manufacturing site.  

If this product contains ingredients with exposure limits, personal, workplace atmosphere or biological monitoring may be required to determine the effectiveness of the ventilation or other control measures and/or the necessity to use respiratory protective equipment.

Reference should be made to European Standard EN 689 for methods for teh assessment of exposure by inhalation to chemical agents and national guidance documents for methods for the determination of hazardous substances.

Risk management measures:

Occupational Exposure Controls

Technical measures:

Use only with adequate ventilation. Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep worker exposure to airborne contaminants below any recommended or statutory limits.

The substance shall be rigorously contained by technical means during its whole lifecycle including manufacture, purification, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, sampling, analysis, loading and unloading of equipment or vessels, waste disposal or purification and storage.

Procedural and control technologies shall be used that minimise emission and any resulting exposure. In cases of accident and where waste is generated, procedural and/or control technologies shall be used to minimise emissions and the resulting exposure during purification or cleaning and maintenance procedures.  

Organisational measures:

Only properly trained and authorised personnel shall handle the substance. In the case of cleaning and maintenance works,special procedures such as purging and washing shall be applied before the system is opened and entered.

Personal Protection Measures:

Respiratory protection:

If exposure cannot be ruled out, e.g. during product transfer, sampling or maintenance, a well-fitting respiratory mask conforming to standards or well-fitting respiratory device conforming to standards must be worn.

Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product and the safe working limits of the selected respirator.

Recommended: Wear respiratory equipment in case vapours and aerosols or dust are emitted.

Short term filter device: filter P2

Hand protection :

Chemical-resistant (EN 374), impervious gloves complying with an approved standard should be worn at all times when handling chemical products if product contact cannot be excluded.

Check protective gloves prior to each use for their proper condition.

After use of gloves apply skin-cleaning agents and skin cosmetics.

Recommended:

Nitrile rubber, NBR (0,35 mm)

Chloroprene rubber, CR (0,5 mm)

Butyl rubber, BR (0,5 mm)

Fluorocarbon rubber (Viton), (0,4 mm)

Penetration time of the material: level 6 (> 480 min.)

After contamination with product change the gloves immediately and dispose of them according to relevant national and local regulations

Eye protection :

Safety eyewear complying with an approved standard should be used to avoid exposure to liquid splashes, mists, gases or dusts.

Recommended: Tightly-fitting safety goggles  (EN 166).  

Skin protection :

Wear protective clothing. Personal protective equipment for the body should be selected based on the task being performed and therisks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product.  

Hygiene measures :

Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling chemical products, before eating, smoking and using the lavatory and at the end of the working period.

Appropriate techniques should be used to remove potentially contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.

Environmental Exposure Controls:

Technical measures :

Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. In some cases, special waste water treatment, fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment will be necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.

Stability and reactivity

Stability:

The product is stable.

Possibility of hazardous reactions:

Under normal conditions of storage and use, hazardous reactions will not occur.

Conditions to avoid:

In the case of dusty organic products the possibility of a dust explosion should always be considered.

No hazardous reactions when used as directed.

Prevent contact with concentrated acids and strong oxidizing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products:

Under normal conditions of storage and use, hazardous decomposition products should not be produced.

Disposal considerations

Methods of disposal:

Examine possibilities for re-utilisation. Product residues and uncleaned empty containers should be packaged, sealed, labelled, and disposed of or recycled according to relevant national and local regulations.

After prior treatment product has to be landfilled or incinerated  adhering to the regulations pertaining to the disposal of especially hazardous waste.

When uncleaned empty containers are passed on, the recipient must be warned of any possible hazard that may be caused by residues.

For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste List (EWL) should be used. It is among the tasks of the polluter to assign the waste to waste codes specific to industrial sectors and processes according to the European Waste List (EWL).
