According to EU REACh Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex VII, 7.14, column 2, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is marketed or used in a non-solid or granular form. As isopentyl p-methoxycinnamate is liquid, performing a granulometry study was not required.

Although liquids are not formally exempted from flammability testing, the primary value for ease of ignition of a liquid is the flash point. As information on the flash point of isopentyl p-methoxycinnamate is available (please see the results of the flammability study), an additional flammability study is not necessary (see chapter 7A, section R.7.1.10 of the ECHA guidance).

Isopentyl p-methoxycinnamate does not contain any functional groups identified in the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Appendix 6, Table A6.1, as being associated with explosive properties. Therefore, according to Regulation (EC) no. 1907/2006, Annex VII, 7.11, column 2, the study does not need to be performed. Accordingly, no explosiveness study was performed with isopentyl p-methoxycinnamate.

Isopentyl p-methoxycinnamate does not contain fluorine or chlorine, and only contains oxygen atoms that are bound to carbon. It was therefore concluded that the substance will not exhibit oxidising properties. As a result, and according to Regulation EC No. 1907/2006, Annex Vll, 7.13, column 2, testing for this endpoint is considered to be unnecessary based on the chemical structure. Therefore, no test for oxidising properties was conducted.

Testing for stability of Isopentyl p-methoxycinnamate in organic solvents and identity of relevant degradation products was not needed to be conducted as the structure of this substance not include reactive groups that might be associated with instability. Accordingly, based on structural considerations the study for stability in organic solvents has been waived. In addition and in accordance with the endpoint specific guidance (R. 7A), there are rare occasions when it is important to have information on the stability of a compound. For example, testing might be needed, if a given test item of low solubility is tested in ecotoxicity studies upon dissolution in an organic solvent. However, in the studies considered in the present registration dossier, solubility of this substance in water was increased by physical means.
