Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

ErC20 (72h) = 0.714 mg/L for Desmodesmus subspicatus (QSAR estimation)
Nevertheless that endpoint is not used for PNEC-calculation as PNEC-values were calculated on the basis of a HC5-approach.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since only a few data on the long-term aquatic toxicity for the mixtures within the category are available, the assessment on long-term toxicity is based on alcohol ethoxylate specific QSARs (Wind & Belanger, 2006; Boeije et al., 2006; Belanger et al, 2006). The QSARs considered all three trophic levels (algae, invertebrates and fish). The effects are described as EC20 values, since the QSARs are more robust for the EC20 values than for NOEC or EC10 values. For the described mixture (C12 -18, <2.5 EO, CAS 68213-23-0) the QSAR for long-term toxicity on green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus (Wind & Belanger, 2006) result in an EC20-value of 0.261 mg/L based on biomass and 0.714 mg/L based on growth rate, respectively. This result (ErC20 = 0.714 mg/L) is used as key value for classification and labeling.

Additionally a category read-across to the GLP-study conducted with CAS 68439-50 -9 according to OECD 201, is made (Smyth and Webley, Huntsman, 2008). In this study, for the alcohol ethoxylate mixture ethoxylated with 1 EO, an EC50 -value for growth rate of 0.41 mg/L is reported.
