Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on the results obtained from acetals, formaldehyde detection and ethanol detection, it can be stated that glycerol formal and other investigated acetals half-life at pH4, 7 and 9 and 25°C > 1 year.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
1 yr
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Based on the results obtained from acetals, formaldehyde detection and ethanol detection, it can be stated that glycerol formal and other investigated acetals half-life at pH4, 7 and 9 and 25°C > 1 year. Those results are confirmed by a Klimisch code 4 study saying that no hydrolysis of GF to formaldehyde was observed after 7 days of incubation in a buffer at 37°C. The calculated pKa of the 2 isomers corroborates those data.
