Hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) is “readily biodegradable”  according to the OECD criteria.

Additional information

Three studies investigated the biodegradation of hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5). The tests were performed according to OECD guidelines. More precisely the following tests were performed: OECD 301 D “Closed Bottle Test” and OECD 306 “Biodegradability in Seawater”. The biodegradation in the freshwater and in the marine compartment were covered with these tests and activated sludge or natural seawater was used as inoculum. Hexyl D-glucoside is considerd to be “readily biodegradable” according to the OECD criteria. 71% of the test substance was degraded after 28 days in the freshwater compartment (van Ginkel, 1997; van der Togt, 2004) and 70% in the marine compartment, respectively (Paulsen, 1998). The time window in which the test substance must be degraded ≥ 60% was met. In conclusion, hexyl D-glucoside is“readily biodegradable” based on the OECD criteria.
