Principles of method if other than guideline:
Cottonseed oil or Xylene. Sample weighed into tared beaker, 150 ml cottonseed oil or 100 ml or 50 ml of xylene added. Gross weight measured, shaken and allowe to settle overnight. Centrifge for 80 minutes. Decant liquid, sediment transferred to beaker, cottonseed oil or xylene added to obtain original gross weight, repreat 3x. Determined sol as bromide via titration with silver nitrate to a potentiometric end-point.

Tetrahydrofurn. A known weight of sample is refluxed in a known volume of THF. Sample is centrifuged after cooling to room temperature and known aliquot is evaporated to dryness by gentle stream of air. Residue weight obtained after drying in oven at 100 degrees C for 1 hr. The residue weight represents the amount soluble in THF.
