Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the acute aquatic toxicity of a number of streams was available for this category . They were obtained from proprietary sources. No data was identified in the published literature. The data from this stream has been read across to the other category members.

The studies were conducted to standard guidelines and according to GLP and so are considered fully reliable for use as key studies. The authors report the LC50 based both on nominal loading rates (WAF) and mean measured concentrations. As the test substance is a hydrocarbon stream with various components reporting a measured concentration could be misleading as the measured concentration does not relate to a concentration of the raw stream. Instead, we have used the results reported as WAF, which better represent the potential toxicity of the test substance. Classification will be based on WAF data. A weight of evidence approach has been taken. This showed the most sensitive species to be aquatic invertebrates with a range between 1.2 to 9.83 mg/l. One study provided a LL50 of 1.1mg/l for fish but other studies for fish ranged from 4.4 to 220 mg/l. Streams are not rapidly degradable. . Log Kow range = >3.0 and <6.5.. This classification will apply to all of category. Under classification and labelling regulations this would lead to a classifcation of Aquatic Chronic Category 2.
