Description of key information

A reliable study is available for terpenes and terpenoids, turpentine oil, alpha pinene fraction oligomers. The 96-hour LL50 for Danio rerio is greater than 100 mg/L loading rate WAF and the NOELR is 100 mg/L loading rate WAF.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 203 and EU Method C.1 was conducted with terpenes and terpenoids, turpentine oil, alpha pinene fraction oligomers.

Due to the low aqueous solubility and complex nature of the test item, for the purposes of the test, the test item was prepared as a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF). Seven fish were exposed to a WAF of the test item at single nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L for 96 hours at a temperature of approximately 14 °C under semi-static test conditions. Analytical monitoring of test concentrations was conducted, but as the test item is a UVCB results are expressed as nominal loading rates.

Exposure of rainbow trout to the test item gave LL50 values of greater than 100 mg/L loading rate WAF. The No Observed Effect Loading Rate was 100 mg/L loading rate WAF. This study is considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint.
