Description of key information
Additional information
Boiling Point:
This study does not need to be conducted since the substance decomposes before boiling (cf. Annex VII section 7.3 Column 2 of regulation (EC) 1907/2006).
Density:
The specific gravity of Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C10-14-alkyl derivs. is 0.9593.
Particle size distribution:
The study does not need to be conducted since the substance is exclusively marketed as a liquid (cf. Annex VII section 7.14 Column 2 of regulation (EC) 1907/2006).
Vapour Pressure:
The vapor pressure of 3.44E-12 Pa, 25 deg C (Modified Grain method) was calculated as the average of three estimates generated via EPI Suite for Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C10-alkyl derivs; Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C12-alkyl derivs; and Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C14-alkyl derivs
Partition Coefficient:
The logKow of 10.91 was calculated as the average of three estimates generated via KOWWIN v1.68 via EPI Suite for Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C10-alkyl derivs; Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C12-alkyl derivs; and Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C14-alkyl derivs (see Attachment – Epi Suite Summary Report).
Water Solubility:
The water solubility was estimated from Log Kow (WSKOW v1.42) at 25 deg C (mg/L) as 2.54E-05 calculated as the average of three estimates via EPI Suite for Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C10-alkyl derivs; Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C12-alkyl derivs; and Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C14-alkyl derivs (see Attachment – Epi Suite Summary Report).
Flash Point:
The flash point for Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C10-14-alkyl derivs. is greater that 200 °C.
Auto Flammability:
Self-ignition is not considered to be of relevance for this substance, since this would require heat to be developed either by reaction of this substance with oxygen or by exothermic decomposition and which is not lost rapidly enough to the surroundings.
Flammability:
This substance does not contain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming in contact with air at room temperature (circa 20°C). Furthermore, long-term industrial experience in handling shows that the substance does not ignite in contact with air (in accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI).
Testing of flammability in contact with water is not considered to be required, because the substance does not contain groups that might lead to a reaction with water or damp air, leading to the development of dangerous amounts of gas or gases which may be highly flammable. Furthermore, long-term industrial experience in practical handling of the substance shows that it does not react with water.
Explosiveness:
This substance is void of any chemical structures commonly associated with explosive properties, such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides.
Oxidising Properties:
This substance does not contain a surplus of oxygen or any structural groups known to be correlated with a tendency to react exothermally with combustible material (cf. Annex VII section 7.13 Column 2 of regulation 1907/2006).
pH:
The pH of the substance (10%) was 2.75 and determined by aThermalyne Cimarac1 pH meter.
Viscosity:
The viscosity of Benzenesulfonic acid, di-C10-14-alkyl derivs. is 1750.0.
