Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
23 March 1987 to 06 April 1987
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids))
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
yes
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Product designation: Monoazo Yellow TZ 2382
Identification: FAT 40224/C
Vers. 10/86 Op. 1/86
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Sample tested:
test mixture (not specified)
Parameter:
maximum burning rate
Result:
1.1 mm/s
Sample tested:
reference mixture (not specified)
Parameter:
maximum burning rate
Result:
3.7 mm/s

The 10 % test subtance: 90 % cellulose mixture showed a maximum burning rate of 1.1 mm/s, but only 4 out of 6 tests propagated to the second reference mark. Irregular burning with flame was observed. In the other mixtures none of the 6 tests propagated to second reference mark. Extinction after 0-55 mm was observed.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
FAT 40224/C has no oxidizing properties.
Executive summary:

In a GLP-compliant study with FAT 40224/C, performed according to EU method A.17, the oxidising properties of the test substance were determined. Hot platinum wire (approximately 1000 °C) was used as an ignition source. The 10 % test subtance : 90 % cellulose mixture showed a maximum burning rate of 1.1 mm/s, but only 4 out of 6 tests propagated to the second reference mark. Irregular burning with flame was observed. In the other mixtures none of the 6 tests propagated to the second reference mark. Extinction after 0-55 mm was observed. The maximum burning rate of the reference mixture barium nitrate/cellulose (60:40) was 3.4 mm/s. Therefore, it could be concluded that the test substance had no oxidizing properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

As the substance has no oxidising properties, it does not need to be classified as per the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
