Ready biodegradability tests for several alkyl sulfates are available. Based on the results of screening tests for biodegradation in water it can be concluded that alkyl sulfates with carbon chain length of C8-C18 are readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria (OECD SIDS 2007).
Ready biodegradation of C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4) was tested in several studies: a GLP test according to guidelines OECD 301 B (Neven 1994), 301 D (GLP - Marks 1991, non-GLP - Richterich and Mühlberg 2001) and a non-GLP study according to OECD 301 E (Sanchez Leal 1991). Based on available data it can be concluded that C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4) is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
