The substance 2-butyl-2-ethylpropanediol was not readily biodegradable (60 mg/L) in a study conducted to OECD 301F.

In a study conducted to guideline OECD 302B, the substance 2-butyl-2-ethylpropanediol was 79% biodegraded over 28 days (i.e.> 70%). The substance 2-butyl-2-ethylpropanediol is therefore considered inherently and ultimately biodegradable.

In accordance with REACH Annex XI, based on available data, the substance is not classified as hazardous for the environment. Therefore degradation simulation testing in water and/or sediment and in soil do not need to be conducted.
