Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
30th March 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: A GLP compliant study conducted in compliance with agreed protocols, with no or minor deviations from standard test guidelines and/or minor methodological deficiencies, which do not affect the quality of the relevant results.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.7200 (Melting Point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Name of test material (as cited in study report): 1-phenylethyl acetate
- Physical state: colourless to pale yellow liquid
- Name of test material (as cited in study report): Gardenol
- Lot/batch No.: VE00123242
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 14th January 2013
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -50 °C
Remarks on result:
other: No congealing observed

The preliminary test was performed as described. No congealing was observed down to a temperature of -50 ºC.

As no congealing was observed in the preliminary test, no further tests were undertaken.

Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the test, the freezing point of the test substance was determined to be < -50ºC (223.15 K).
Executive summary:

In a GLP compliant freezing point study conducted in line with standardised guidelines OECD 102, EU Method A.1 and EPA OPPTS 830.7200, the freezing point of the test substance was determined using the freezing temperature method. The freezing point was determined to be <-50ºC.

Description of key information

The freezing point of 1-phenylethyl acetate was determined to be < -50ºC according to a study performed in line with OECD Guideline 102.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The key study (Givaudan, 2011a) was conducted in line with GLP and standardised guidelines with a sufficient level of detail to assess the quality of the study. The study was performed to a good standard and was assigned a reliability score of 1 in accordance with Klimisch (1997).
