Additional information

Most of the available studies used isolated bacteria strains, the tests were run under laboratory conditions. The results from these non-Guideline tests allow neither a classification of biodegradability, nor a conclusion about degradation rates in biological treatment plants and in environmental compartments. Furthermore, it is not clear if the metabolites of chlorhexidine biodegradation are formed in relevant amounts under realistic conditions.
