Description of key information

Additional information

Appearance:

Methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is white coloured amorphous solid and it is odourless organic substance.

Melting point / freezing point:

Melting point of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is found to be 190 deg C at atmospheric pressure of 975 hpa. Since this chemical is a solid, determination of the freezing is not scientifically possible

Boiling point :

Boiling Point of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is 419.7 C at pressure of 760 mmHg.

Density:

Density of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is found to be 0.90 g/cm3 at temperature of 25 Deg C

Particle size distribution:

Based on the principle of Measurement of relative amounts of particles present, sorted according to size, Sieve Analysis method have been used in this case and the particle size was observed to be in the range from 53 micro meter to 500 micro meter. .

Vapour pressure:

The vapour pressure of a substance is defined as the saturation pressure above a solid or liquid substance. Thus, in this case, vapour pressure of the substance is found to be 0.0000000856 mm Hg or <0.00001141 Pa.

Partition coefficient:

The n-octanol/water partition coefficient (Kow ; also known as log P) is defined as the ratio of the equilibrium concentrations of a dissolved substance in a 2-phase system consisting of the largely immiscible solvents n-octanol and water. Thus Log P in this case is found to be 1.65 at 25 deg C.

Water solubility :

The solubility of a substance in water is specified by the saturation mass concentration of the substance in water at a given temperature. Thus in this case, the water solubility of the test substnaces is found to be in the range of >1000 - <10000 mg/ litre at 25 degC. Hence it is said to be soluble in water.

Solubility in organic solvents:

Solubility of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate in Alcohol is found to be 9 g/L at 25 Deg C and it can be concluded that this is very soluble in alcohol

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII, this end point was considered for waiver since surface activity is not a desired property of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate.

Flash point :

The flash point of a substance is the lowest temperature at which it can form an ignitable mixture in air. The falsh point of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate was estimated to be 207.6oC. This it can be concluded that methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is a non flammable solid.

Auto flammability :

The autoignition temperature or kindling point of a substance is the lowest temperature at which it will spontaneously ignite in a normal atmosphere without an external source of ignition, such as a flame or spark. The auto ignition temperature of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate was determines in the laboratory but it was not found to ignite on exposure of the vapours to air. Thus it can be concluded that that methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is not auto flammable

Flammability :

Flammability is defined as how easily something will burn or ignite, causing fire or combustion in contact with an ignition source. methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate was found to be non flammable when an igntition source having temperature of around 950oC was brought in close contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is a non flammable solid at high temperature

Explosiveness:

This end point was considered for data waiver since there are no chemical groups in methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate that can be associated with explosive properties

Oxidizing property:

No end point recorded of the redox titration of methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate is obtained. This suggest that methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate has no oxidising property

Dissociation constant:

methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate was found to be a dissociating solid with the pKa value of 0.034 obtained at 35oC

Stability in organic solvents :

This end point was considered for waiver since this substance is very soluble in methanol in which it has a solubility of 9000 mg/L and also in accordance with column 1 of annex IX, this end point need only be conducted if stability of the substance is considered to be critical in organic solvent which is not the case for methyl 5-nitrohydrogen.isophthalate
