Description of key information

Soil hazard category of the registered substance was determined in accordance with Table R.7.11—2 of ECHA Endpoint specific guidance Chapter R.7c (Version 3.0 – June 2017).

- BPA PO was found to be inherently biodegradable and is therefore not considered as being highly persistent.

- BPA PO has a Log Kow < 5 and was not identified as an ionisable substance, therefore it does not have a potential for high adsorption.

- BPA PO was not identified as very toxic to the aquatic organisms, as EC50 and LC50 values for algae, fish, and aquatic invertebrates were above 1 mg/L.

Based on these criteria it was concluded that the registered substance falls into Hazard category 1.

As the substance belongs to Hazard category 1 according to Table R.7.11—2, the equilibrium partitioning method has been applied to derive the PNEC for soil and to assess the hazard to soil organisms. As all risk characterization ratios for hazards to soil are under 1, therefore no further testing is proposed for terrestrial toxicity in accordance with ECHA Endpoint specific guidance Chapter R.7c (Version 3.0 – June 2017).

In regards to toxicity to birds, BPA PO has a low potential for bioaccumulation and has no potential to cause toxic effects if the substance is accumulated in higher organisms via the food chain as the substance does not meet the T criteria. It was therefore concluded that there is no concern for secondary poisoning with BPA PO and no animal testing was required for this endpoint.
