Description of key information

Not oxidising, EU Method A.17, Oudhoff (2007)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

The oxidising properties of the test material were investigated in a study that was conducted under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.17.

The test material/cellulose mixtures at the ratios 10/90 to 60/40 (w/w) burned with a blue flame (height 5 mm). The flame stopped after burning a short part of the initial distance of the pile. The test material/cellulose mixtures at 70/30 to 90/10 (w/w) could not be ignited. Since burning of the test material/cellulose mixtures after initiation stopped quickly and the reference mixtures did burn over the whole reaction zone it was concluded that the test material has no oxidising properties in the sense that it cannot sustain a reaction with cellulose at a burning rate higher than that of a reference mixture or stimulate combustion of cellulose through a mechanism as found characteristic for substances having oxidising properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance does not meet the requirements for classification, as an oxidiser, under European Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
