Description of key information

In accordance with section 7.13 of Column 2 of Annex VII, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials.  2,6-Xylenol is considered not to contain any chemical groups indicating oxidizing properties, taking into consideration the chemical structure of the substance and Appendix 6 of UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria for the use of screening procedures to assess oxidizing substances.
The oxygen present in the molecule is chemically bonded to carbon and hydrogen only. This conforms to the ECHA Endpoint specific guidance (R.7a).

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to oxidising properties.
