Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods (short-term)

The study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely (exposure considerations).

Toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods (long-term)

The study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely (exposure considerations).

Toxicity to terrestrial arthropods (short-term)

The study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely (exposure considerations).

Toxicity to terrestrial arthropods (long-term)

The study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely (exposure considerations).

Toxicity to terrestrial plants (short-term)

The study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely (exposure considerations).

Toxicity to terrestrial plants (long-term)

The study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely (exposure considerations).

Toxicity to soil microorganisms

In a study according to OECD TG 217 with the structural analogue tert butyl acrylate, the EC50 was found to be greater than the highest concentration tested. 28day EC50: > 1000 mg/kg soil dw

Toxicity to birds

In accordance with section 1 and 3 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted. Since no exposure of birds is expected, testing of birds is not required. The dataset on mammalian toxicity is extensive and complete. Thus, these data can be used for hazard assessment purposes to estimate secondary poisoning.

Additional information

No experimental data on isobutyl acrylate are available. Data on the structural analogue tert n-butyl acrylate are included.

A study on the toxicity of a range of concentrations of tert butyl acrylate towards soil micro-flora was conducted according to OECD TG 217. The EC50 for soil micro-flora based on effects on carbon cycle was determined to be greater than 1000 mg/kg dry mass soil.

Since isobutyl acrylate is readily biodegradable and no direct releases to soil from point sources are known, no significant exposure of the terrestrial compartment is expected. At production sites acrylates are handled in closed systems for polymerisation. Diffuse releases into the environment may occur from residual monomers in the polymeric products. No further testing in the terrestrial compartment is required based on such low exposure levels.
