Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties

Description of key information

Not explosive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The molecule has no chemical groups that are associated with explosive properties. Therefore, in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, there is no need to conduct the explosive properties study.

In a secondary source to which reliability could not be assigned, THFA was reported to have a lower explosive limit of 1.5% and an upper explosive limit of 9.7%. Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol may be explosive under the influence of flame (above the Flash point, an explosive vapour/air mixture may be formed).

Justification for classification or non-classification

There is no evidence to suggest that the substance should be classified for this endpoint.
