Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a weight-of-evidence approach it was found that IPPD hydrolyses quickly under environmental conditions (pH7, 20°C with a half-life of 3.9 hourfs. The main hydrolysis product was identified as 4-hydroxydiphenylamine (CAS Nr. 122-37-2) which also was found in the oxidised form Benzo-quinoneimine-N-phenyl.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
3.9 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Hydrolysis as a function of pH of IPPD was performed according to EU method C.7 'Degradation - Abiotic Degradation Hydrolysis as a Function of pH' (1992). The half-life time of hydolysis at pH 4.1 and 50 °C was estimated about 22 hours (35°C: 75 hours). For pH 7 and 9 at 50 °C the half-life times of hydrolysis were estimated 1.3 and 1.2 hours (DUSLO a.s., 2008)

The weight-of evidence appraoch was completed with a study (Monsanto 1986). This study yielded a half-life under environmental realistic conditions and the hydrolysis products were identified.
