Assessment of adsorption potential: In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annexes VIII and IX, the study does not need to be conducted if based on the physicochemical properties the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption (e.g. the substance has a low octanol water partition coefficient), or the substance and its relevant degradation products decompose rapidly. N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)ethylenediamine (CAS 10563-26-5) has a log Kow of -1.55 (@ 25°C and pH 11; BASF AG, 1989; report no. BRU 89.034) and readily biodegradable.

The adsorption potential was estimated for N,N'-bis(3 -aminopropyl)ethylenediamine (CAS 10563 -26 -5) using the MCI and the Kow methods of the KOCWIN v2.00 module from SRC EPI Suite v4.11. These estimates are representative for uncharged molecules. The substance was not within the applicability domain of the estimation model.

Uncharged molecule:

- MCI method: Koc = 255; log Koc = 2.41

- Kow method: Koc = 0.75; log Koc = -0.12

Experimental data are available from the structurally similar substance triethylenetetramine (CAS 112 -24 -3). In a study with three soils the adsorption coefficient was determined to be log Koc = 3.2 to 3.7 (OECD 106; AkzoNobel, 1991). The geometric mean is 3.49. Adsorption of triethylenetetramine to the solid soil phase is therefore expected.

As experimental data were available and the estimated results were not within the applicability domain of the model, the estimated results from KOCWIN v2.00 were disregarded.

Regarding the experimental result for N,N'-bis(3 -aminopropyl)ethylenediamine, adsorption to the solid soil phase is expected (log Koc > 3). However, the substance is readily biodegradable.
