Description of key information

A GLP-study according to EPA guideline OPP 122-2 with Selenastrum capricornutum is available for tripropylene glycol butyl ether with reported endpoints for cell number and volume. These data were reanalyzed and an ErC50 for growth inhibition reported as well.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
592 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
253 mg/L

Additional information

In a GLP-study according to EPA guideline OPP 122 -2 with Selenastrum capricornutum the EC50 and NOEC values based on cell volume and cell number were determined over a exposure period of 5 days. For the standard duration of 72 hours, the lowest EC50 (cell number) was 445 mg/l (measured), the respective NOEC was 217.4 mg/l (estimated). These data were statistically reanalyzed and an ErC50 and and ErC10 for algal growth inhibition were determined with vaules of 592 and 253 mg/L, respectively.
