Results and discussion

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

Workers involved in the manufacture of thioglycolic acid 2-ethylhexyl ester frequently complained of headaches, dizziness, fatigue, general weariness and gastrointestinal symptoms. Circulatory stimulants alleviated the syndrome for a short time in some cases, so that the cause was assumed to be a hypotensive effect. The laboratory workers involved in the study of the effects of thioglycolic acid 2-ethylhexyl ester on the blood pressure of rabbits and dogs similarly complained of symptoms of this type and particularly of headaches, after exposure to thioglycolic acid 2-ethylhexyl ester for several days. The laboratory workers were also in contact with thioglycolic acid and ethyl hexanol (no further details provided).
