Alkyl-dipropylene triamines and tripropylene tetramines are protonated under ambient conditions. This means that they will incidental sorb strongly to negatively charged substances like glassware, soil and sediment constituents. Biodegradation is considered to be the main removal mechanism of this substance. Most ready biodegradability tests are however hampered by the biocidal activity of these substances. The half-life in the different environmental compartments will be strongly influenced by the bioavailability of the substances. No data are available for the determination of the half-life of triamines and tetramines in soil or sediment. These values are therefore estimated as a worst-case on the readily biodegradability of the available fraction.
