Details on study design:
Adult male and female Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this experiment. Rats were dosed with undiluted vinyl 2-ethylhexanoate at (2.0, 4.0, 5.7, 8.0, 11.3, 16.0 ml/kg) by intraesophageal intubation. Food and water were freely available throughout a 14 day observation period.

Clinical signs:
other: Sluggishness, unstaidy gait, prostration, red crust on perinasal fur, brown wet stain on periurogenital fur.
Gross pathology:
Lung mottled red and dark red, dark red kidneys ans trace to large amount of blood in urine at high dose levels in males, 16.0 and 11.3 ml/kg. The effects were seen at lower doses, down to 5.7 ml/kg, in females.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
practically nontoxic
Remarks:
Migrated information Criteria used for interpretation of results: expert judgment
Conclusions:
Males: LD50 = 9.54 ml/kg; Females: LD50 = 5.47 ml/kg; No significant lesions observed from microscopic evaluation.
Executive summary:

Males: LD50 = 9.54 ml/kg; Females: LD50 = 5.47 ml/kg; No significant lesions observed from microscopic evaluation. Vinyl 2 -ethylhexanoate is of low acute toxicity to laboratory rats by the oral routes of exposure.
