According to Annex IX, section 9.4 Column 2, studies on terrestrial organisms do not need to be conducted if direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely.

The terrestrial toxicity studies are not proposed by the Registrant because direct and indirect exposure of the terrestrial compartment is unlikely to occur. In fact, because of the gaseous nature of PMVE, environmental emissions are directly essentially to the only atmosphere from where, because of PMVE physical and chemical properties, no significant distribution to the other environmental compartments is anticipated. In particular, because of the low Koc and high HLC, the potential for wet and dry deposition from the atmosphere to the soil is predicted to be negligible. The half-life of PMVE in the atmosphere is of a few days, this further limits the potential for exposure of soil organisms.

The EQC Fugacity III Model confirms that the whole amount of PMVE eventually released to air would tend to remain into this compartment. The model was run assuming emission only to air as no significant emissions to water are expected and considering that in case of accidental emissions, due to its gaseous nature, PMVE is expected to be released to air only.

PMVE is only used in industrial installations and all the uses foresee limited environmental emissions, substantially directed to the atmosphere only. As documented in the attached CSR, the results of the exposure assessment covering all relevant exposures throughout the life cycle of the substance demonstrate no significant exposure of soil for all the identified uses.
