EC number: 265-191-7 | CAS number: 64742-88-7 A complex combination of hydrocarbons obtained from the distillation of crude oil or natural gasoline. It consists predominantly of saturated hydrocarbons having carbon numbers predominantly in the range of C9 through C12 and boiling in the range of approximately 140°C to 220°C (284°F to 428°F).

Key study data are available for most of the required physicochemical endpoints for kerosine. Kerosines are low-viscosity hydrocarbon liquids (CONCAWE 2009). The boiling point is from 146 to 299°C and the density is from 0.77 to 0.85 g/cm3at 15°C (CONCAWE 2010a). The vapour pressure for kerosines ranges from <1 to 3.7 kPa at 37.8°C. The flash point is 29 - 70°C and the auto-flammability temperature is 220 - 250°C (CONCAWE 2010a). The viscosity of kerosine is 1 to 2.4 cSt at 40°C and 2.8 to 4.3 cSt at -20°C (CONCAWE 2010a). Melting/freezing point, water solubility, partition coefficient, surface tension, explosiveness, flammability, oxidizing properties, dissociation constant, and stability in organic solvents endpoints were determined to be eligible for data waiving. A granulometry study was technically not feasible.
Physico-chemical data for kerosine were derived from the Kerosines/Jet Fuels Product Dossier (CONCAWE 1994, reliable with restrictions), The Compilation of Selected Physico-Chemical Properties of Petroleum Substances (CONCAWE 2010a, reliable with restrictions); and the Category Justification Document (CONCAWE 2009).
