Description of key information

The surface tension of a 1 g/L aqueous solution of  Sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate was determined to be 69.90 ± 0.01 mN/m.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
69.9
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 substances showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this method should be regarded as being surface active materials.

The surface tension of a 1 g/L aqueous solution of Sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate was determined in a GLP study according to OECD Guideline 115 and Directive 92/69/EEC Method A.5. to be 69.90 ± 0.01 mN/m.

Therefore Sodium 2 -hydroxyethanesulphonate is not regarded as being surface active.
