Description of key information

With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae.
No toxic effects occur at the range of the substances solubility.
EC50 (72h) > 100 mg/L and NOEC (72h) >= 100 mg/L (nominal) for growth rate of Desmodesmus subspicatus (OECD 201)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no data of acute toxicity on aquatic algae for the described pigment are available, a read-across to a similar pigment (CAS 30125-47-4) is used to cover this endpoint. The toxicity on aquatic algae was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201 [Department of Product Safety, BASF SE, 2012]. The study was conducted with the green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus as test species. Based on the low water solubility of the test item a saturated stock solution was prepared and the test was conducted as limit test with a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. After 72 hours of exposure no toxic effects on algae up to the highest test concentration were observed.
